Community Integration and Education Program Helps Client Improve Reading Skills
As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in March, we will be sharing stories of Willows Way clients and their personal achievements through participation in our various programs. This week, we would like to introduce you to 61-year-old S.H., a participant in our Community Integration and Education program.
S.H. set a strong goal for herself last year -- she wanted to improve her reading skills. She worked very hard, with staff support, first to identify letters and words beginning with each letter. Next she began matching pictures and their corresponding words. Recently, she has worked on reading a daily schedule to her peers and has begun to identify and read signs in the community. Through participation in this Willows Way program, S.H. has been able to expand her world and increase her own independence.
Way to go S.H.! Keep up the great work!
